Mosaics | Having a Moment

Design: Studio Hus | Photo: Peter Margonelli | Styling: Colin King

Lately, I have realized a lot of my saved images while scrolling has had mosaics (whether that is the backsplash, the floor tile, or the shower walls.) Mosaics have been around since the beginning and can go with so many different styles. I wanted to create this post to help showcase how special and timeless mosaic tiles can feel, especially when they aren’t the overused printed mosaic we are seeing in all of the fast-flipper homes these past few years.

Mosaics are a timeless design element that brings in a lot of character to a space. Whether the mosaic tiles are neutral, colorful, busy, or subtle, they add in so much depth and have that surprise and delight effect when walking into a space. I love how their texture can make new-build homes feel like they have been around for years.

Reflecting on Mosaics I Have Used in Projects:

More Grout Lines, Lower Risk of Slipping…

When thinking about spaces that have a potential for water, like the laundry room or a bathroom, having more grout lines can help add more traction to the floor. I always use small mosaics in showers for this reason, like a 2x2 hexagon, so I love the idea of applying this to the entire room. Stunning AND functional.

Taking Notes from Mariangela Russo’s Home on Instagram…

One of my favorite accounts to follow on Instagram is @accadeintavola. Mariangela is a sommelier living out her dreams in Milan, Italy. Her home brings me so much joy and inspiration, from the etched marble countertops, Mosaic tile on her floor and backsplash, to her gorgeous french range.
